[Help] Fresh installation of SciDB on Ubuntu 12.10

#1

Hi there,

I’m currently using Ubuntu installed using Wubi on my Windows 7 notebook. Right now I’m trying to install and run SciDB, but have encountered some issues.

I’m following the 12.12 User’s Guide section 2.4.1.

  1. There’s no scidb.list in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ after running the command ‘wget -O- downloads.paradigm4.com/apt/key | sudo apt-key add -’. I manually created this file and added the two lines to it.

  2. Trying to run the command ‘sudo apt-get install scidb-all-coord’ results in this:
justin@ubuntu:/etc/apt/sources.list.d$ sudo apt-get install scidb-all-coord
    Reading package lists… Done

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
scidb-all-coord : Depends: scidb (= 12.12.0-5890) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libscidbclient (= 12.12.0-5890) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: scidb-utils (= 12.12.0-5890) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: scidb-plugins (= 12.12.0-5890) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libscidbclient-python (= 12.12.0-5890) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: postgresql-client-8.4 but it is not installable
Depends: postgresql-8.4 but it is not installable
Depends: postgresql-contrib-8.4 but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
1. Tried installing postgresql-8.4 to fix 2), but got this:
justin@ubuntu:/etc/apt/sources.list.d$ sudo apt-get install postgresql-8.4
    Reading package lists… Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information… Done
Package postgresql-8.4 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package ‘postgresql-8.4’ has no installation candidate
Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

#2

yes. compile from source.

Or update the deb file by hand.

We are on ubuntu 12.10 w/ pg 9.1 and it works fine.

I too wish they would release a 12.10 deb. pg 8.4 is ancient.
